Two unknown assailants opened fire at a riot police station in Istanbul's Bayrampaşa district on the morning of March 3. One police officer was wounded in the arm in the attack, while one of the attackers was also reportedly injured.
Initial reports indicate two women arrived at the scene inside a taxi and opened fire at the station. They later jumped off the car and ran through nearby alleys on foot.
Police launched an operation in surrounding neighborhoods to apprehend the attackers, closing off entry and exit to streets in the area, where both attackers are currently trapped inside a building in the area.
Police are set to launch an operation once the surrounding buildings are evacuated, supported by a police helicopter. Gunshots and an explosion have been heard in the area surrounding the building where the attackers are trapped.
