Turkish industrialist Nur Ger, who was recently appointed to United Nations' Women's Empowerment Principles (UN WEPs) as spokesperson in 2016, will participate to the Gong Ceremony at the Istanbul Stock Exchange and make an opening speech within the March 8 International Working Women's Day event.
Nur Ger is Chairwoman of Turkey's first SME SUTEKS Group and head of the gender equality working group at Turkish Industry and Business Association (TÜSİAD).
The speech of Ger will focus on the role of gender equality and urge on the importance of women's economic empowerment for the business world and sustainable economic development.
Within the event names “Ring the Bell for Equality”, the call of United Nations, "2030: Step It Up for Gender Equality" will reiterate need for developing women's and girls' rights. The petition named "Women's Empowerment Principles - WEPs" will be also announced after the gong ceremony to be held on March 8 in Istanbul Stock Exchange foyer.
The ceremony will be the latest of events, which urge private sector, business leaders and the society to ensure gender equality, organized within the cooperation of UN Global Compact, UN Women, World Federation of Exchanges-WFE, Women in ETFs, Sustainable Stock Exchanges Initiative-SSE and International Finance Corporation (IFC).
WEPs platform demands company policies to develop gender equality by vowing seven main principals. More than a thousand companies have signed and joined the initiative so far.
