Turkey calls on citizens to leave several Iraqi provinces

Turkish Foreign Ministry called on citizens to leave all areas of Iraq, excluding Iraqi Kurdistan, over security risks on Dec. 9, in a written statement released on its website.

Turkish citizens whose stay is not essential were warned not to travel to several provinces in Iraq, including Basra, Najaf, Anbar and Kirkuk.

Turkey has also underlined that Turkish companies have been facing an increasing threat in the region, amid announcements triggering violence and attacks.

The statement followed growing tension between Ankara and the central Baghdad government, as Turkey has deployed around 300 military officers to Iraqi city of Mosul, in a bid to train local Iraqi forces fighting the Islamic State and retake the city from jihadi militants.
