Bowie has “rocked” the international music and entertainment world, with his “changing faces” as a singer, songwriter, performer, actor, producer and collaborator that has marked many peoples' lives across the globe.
"I grew up listening to and watching the pop genius David Bowie. He was a master of re-invention, who kept getting it right. A huge loss” British Prime Minister David Cameron said.
Bowie's death was confirmed on his official Facebook page, while his son, film director Duncan Jones posted his childhood picture with the veteran rock star.
“Very sorry and sad to say it's true. I'll be offline for a while. Love to all” Duncan Jones' statement said.
"David Bowie died peacefully today surrounded by his family after a courageous 18-month battle with cancer. While many of you will share in this loss, we ask that you respect the family's privacy during their time of grief" post in Bowie's official Facebook page stated.
Recently, an album of Bowie was released on behalf of his 69th birthday and he has performed at a New York charity concert in 2006 for the last time.
The album entitled Blackstar compiled of his seven songs has been receiving applauds, said BBC News, adding Bowie has went to “global stardom” over his breakthrough with 1972's The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust, as well as Spiders From Mars.
Ziggy Stardust was a persona adopted by Bowie in the early 1970s.
The legendary rock musician was known for hit songs such as Life on Mars, Let's Dance, Starman, Heroes, Rebel, Under Pressure, and Modern Love.
