A “snow team” de-iced the airstrip against icing, while teams boosted efforts to prevent further interruption in flights.
"The light snow that has been forecast around Istanbul on December 30 is expected to increase in severity on December 31." Turkish Airlines has said in a previous statement.
Turkish carrier Pegasus also hsa announced some flights would be cancelled from Sabiha Gökçen Airport in the Anatolian side due to “meteorological obstacles”.
“On Dec. 30, Bishkek, Sofia, Tehran in international flights and Ankara,Konya,Amasya amongst domestic flights from Ataturk Airport were cancelled” the Turkish Airlines statement has said, while adding the following flights were to be cancelled.
“On Dec. 31, on the other hand, Ankara, Trabzon, Konya, Diyarbakır, Erzurum, İzmir, Antalya flights from Sabiha Gökçen Airport;
Mardin, Elazığ, Ağrı, Iğdır, Van, Sivas, Erzurum, Muş, Batman, Mardin, Adıyaman, Amasya, Sinop, İzmir domestic flights from Ataturk Airport;
Almaty, El-Kasim, Kabul, Basra, Milano, Baku, Venice, Bologna, Hamburg, Munich, Brussels, Düsseldorf, Skopje, Sarajevo, Kazan, Nakhichevan, Ganja, Zürich, Riga, Tbilisi, Bishkek, Ulan Bator, Köln, Tel Aviv, Lisbon, Tallinn, Stuttgart, Kuwait, Rotterdam, Oslo from Ataturk Airport” Turkish Airlines statement has added.
