14 suspects arrested over Ankara bombing

A total of 14 suspects were arrested early on Feb. 22 over a deadly car bomb attack in the Turkish capital that killed at least 28 people and left 61 injured on Feb. 17.

Some 14 suspects were transferred to court on Feb. 21 with a demand for their arrest while seven others were released after interrogation by a prosecutor.

An Ankara Criminal Court of Peace ordered the arrest of the 14 for assisting an armed terror organization, forging official documents and fraud using state institutions and organizations early on Feb. 22.

Meanwhile, the father of Abdulbaki Sönmez, who allegedly carried out the attack on behalf of the Kurdish militant group the Kurdistan Freedom Falcons (TAK), confirmed that it was his son who appeared on photographs published by security forces, daily Hürriyet has learned.

It has also been revealed that the father reported his son as missing in 2005.

However, Turkish authorities have said the attacker was Salih Neccar, a Syrian national with links to the People's Protection Units (YPG).
